Getting Started

What is the place all about?

This site is intended to be used as a Coffee Roast Log (and not a Coffee Roast Blog). I can add a simple discussion board here if there is interest, but this is really supposed to be a tool to help us keep track of our roasting and improve our skills. If we can share our experiences too, all the better.

The reason I created this site is because my roasting was stuck. Without keeping track of what worked and what didn't, each batch was like my first. I had always heard that we should log our roasts, but I know that I would never, ever, ever do it on paper. So I created the beginning of this tool and started really paying attention to what worked and what didn't. My roast quality improved dramatically almost immediately. Maybe yours will too!

As an unregistered visitor, you can browse around the site to see the coffees that have been added to the list. You can read the public roasting reports. You can read the public cupping report too.

If you register and log in, you can add your own information. You can add coffees and blends to the coffee and blend lists. You can add your roaster to the list and, if it is programmable, add your roast profiles.

As a registered user, you can add your own roast batches and cupping report. You can choose to make those reports public or to keep them private. You can also check the box at the bottom of Roast and Cupping Logs to see only your own entries.

You can also keep track of your coffee inventory here. When you enter a Roast report, you can have the coffee automatically subtracted from your inventory! Your inventory is always private. No one sees it but you.

I know that this site is full of my coffees and my batches. But I really do intend for it to be useful to you too. And if you are willing to keep your log public, we can all learn from each other!
